The Homestead – Music on the Mountain – Rhett Betty – July 15, 2015

It is difficult to determine who and what has influenced Lynne Kerr the most. Born and raised south of the Mason-Dixon line infused a little swampy soul and Southern twang in her voice. It was not until her third decade that she finally stood in front of the microphone. Then she finally realized her dream of singing songs by some of her major influences. Hopefully Ann Wilson, Patsy Cline, Sister Rosetta Sharp, and Susan Tedeschi would be proud.

Tony Ryan first heard the Beatles at age 7 and immediately realized what he wanted to do. He has been a performing musician playing rock, blues and has now collaborated his style with the marvelous voice and country influences of Lynne Kerr to form “Rhett Betty”.”

Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door

The Homestead – Music on the Mountain – Blackthorn – August 6, 2015

Blackthorn welcomes you to the rich tapestry of Celtic music.

Traditional songs of emigration, sea shanties, lively jigs and reels, and ancient airs combine with some of Ireland’s best contemporary songs for a musical experience that captures the history and legend of Ireland and its people.

What makes a Blackthorn show unique is the variety of tunes, tempos and textures. Each member of the band plays multiple instruments, including wooden flute, accordion, tin whistle, five string banjo, cittern, bones and more. These instruments complement the lead vocal of Belfast native Richard McMullan and the band’s tight blend of four part harmony.

Blackthorn has played throughout the Great Lakes region since 1984. Based in Detroit, they can be found regularly at O’Mara’s Pub and Restaurant in Berkley. Other venues include concert halls, universities and festivals, including main stage appearances at the prestigious Michigan Irish Festival and world renowned Milwaukee Irish Fest.

A Note to Glen Arbor Area Neighbors

Our community has gone through as difficult a time as any of us can imagine after Sunday’s storm that blew through the region. Rather than dwell on that it seemed to us that we needed to join together in some sort of community-wide pick-me-up.

By chance, BLACKTHORN, a wonderful band that plays Celtic music, was scheduled to play at the top of Bay Mountain Thursday night, August 6 at The Homestead. When we were without power, we thought we’d do a ticketed acoustic concert and invite emergency providers to be our guests. When we learned power was restored, we said: “Let’s do more.”

Let’s extend special invitations to the emergency providers and others who have taken the lead on safety and restoration to our community. Let’s include the sheriff’s department, fire departments, EMS providers, and the NPS rangers and the crews from Consumers Energy, the road commission and MDOT. Let’s invite everyone in the community so we can collectively recognize and thank those who have done such wonderful jobs.

Let’s not sell tickets. Rather let’s ask (and, without shame, ask again and again) for a free-will offering and donate 100% of proceeds to help families who are unable to replace or rebuild what was damaged by the storm.

Please join us on Thursday, August 6th as we celebrate all about our community that has been and will again be wonderful. Transportation will start at 6:00pm and the concert will run from 7-9:00pm.

Thank you.

The Homestead

Joshua Davis and his Band – Interlochen Arts Festival – August 13, 2015

Traverse City’s Joshua Davis is a singer-songwriter raised in the folk tradition, and he writes songs that blend the roots of American music with gritty rock n’ roll and vintage soul.

For over 15 years, Davis has made his living sharing his songs, stories and knowledge across the US and Canada at festivals, concert halls, coffeehouses and dives – as a solo act, front man for roots ensemble “Steppin’ In It”, classic swing band “Shout Sister Shout”, songwriter showcase band “The Starlight Six” and frequently as a workshop facilitator, presenter or instructor.

A professional musician for more than 15 years, Davis was recently featured as a Top 3 contestant on NBC’s “The Voice” where he, among other accolades, sang duets with Adam Levine and nine-time Grammy award winner Sheryl Crow.
