Leelanau Net – Lodging and Travel – Sleeping Bear Dunes

The Homestead Resort

Lake Michigan’s spectacular vistas make this a resort unlike others. The color of the water–sometimes blue, sometimes turquoise, sometimes golden–is one reason why. Another is relaxing along the water. You and each member of your family or group can do as much or as little as you like.

That’s why this resort is celebrated, both near and far, as The Homestead, America’s Freshwater Resort.

Lake Michigan Resort

Though expansive, the resort is quite simple to picture.

It was designed, built and is managed to help you enjoy the Most Beautiful Place in America.

On its west are miles of sandy beaches on which you can walk for hours. The beaches are soothing by day, spectacular at sunset, remarkably romantic on starry nights. To its east is Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, the area chosen by the viewers of ABC’s Good Morning America as “The Most Beautiful Place in America.”

Within the resort, neighborhoods separated by nature provide a wide range of high-quality accommodations. Some are perfect for couples, some for families, and some for groups. All are beautiful. There are shops, restaurants, and recreational facilities. There are places for weddings, , and meetings. All of them are staffed by caring and attentive professionals.

You could be pampered at the spa or salon, sit by a pool, play a round of golf or hike in the National Lakeshore. Or, you could teach your kids to swim, play tennis or golf, ski or snowboard.

Simply said, you decide how you want to spend your time in the Most Beautiful Place in America. We take care of the rest.

Some clouds, some fog, some rain and the Mackinac Bridge in the distance. The boat ride to Mackinac Island is always an adventure. (Some whoop-tee-doos too) #mackinacbridge #mackinac #mackinacisland

Sunrise Landing Motel

Sunrise Landing is located 22 miles North of Traverse City and 3 miles South of Northport. We are situated right on West Grand Traverse Bay and have 150′ of private Lake Michigan beach.

Sunrise is central to all the villages and attractions in Leelanau County, so you can branch out, yet never be far from home.

The perfect base
Unwind at the end of a long day by building a beach fire, then lay back and enjoy the stars from anywhere on the grounds. In the morning, we’ll have muffins, pastries, and juice in the lobby. And as always, freshly made coffee is always brewing.

All units have views of the bay and open up onto our large grassy yard. There is plenty of room for kids to run and play, or for you to lay out and read a book in our signature colorful adirondack chairs. The beach, just a few steps from your room, has a nice swimming area (don’t forget your water shoes!) and plenty of sand to lay out or build castles.

Classic Rooms
Our classic rooms have the original tongue and groove cedar walls, which give off that special warm feeling our guests love. These rooms can either have 1 queen bed, or two double beds, complete with a sitting area, writing desk, microwave/fridge, and flat screen TV.

Suites
Each of our suites have a unique floor plan and feel to the room. The biggest draws to these remodeled rooms are the spacious layouts, whirlpool tubs, separate bedrooms (which gives an apartment-like feel), large kitchens and living rooms, and custom gas fireplaces for cozy fall and winter nights.

Kitchenettes
These country-kitchen rooms feature our warm tongue and groove cedar walls, 2 Queen Beds, flat screen T.V., sitting area, writing desk, and a fully equipped kitchen/dining area. Some units have the option to connect to an adjacent room, creating an apartment-like setting.

The Homestead named “Best of the Best” by readers of The Oakland Press

GLEN ARBOR, MI — Here’s one election-year question to get excited about: If you could nominate your choice for the best resort you’ve ever visited, what name would you write on the ballot?

That was the question posed to the 222,500 readers of The Oakland Press in their 2008 “Best of the Best” Readers Choice Awards. After the votes were counted, The Homestead received top honors.

“The question was wide open. It didn’t specify ‘best resort in northern Michigan’ or even Michigan in general,” says Kary Archer, an advertising representative for the Pontiac- based daily serving Detroit and all of Oakland County. “So really, our readers could have named any resort they wanted.”

The Reader’s Choice Awards have been an annual event at The Oakland Press for the last five years, but this year’s win is a first for The Homestead. “Best of the Best” winners were announced in a special tabloid section of The Oakland Press on Sunday, May 4th.

As this year’s Readers Choice winner in the category of “resorts,” The Homestead has exclusive rights to use the “1st Place, Best of the Best ” logo in their advertising. But even more important is the satisfaction of knowing that the resort’s spectacular accommodations have made a serious and memorable impact on the valued guests who have visited this amazing coastal retreat in the heart of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

“This award is a real honor because it comes from the people,” says Jamie Jewell, Senior Manager at The Homestead. “It’s also a validation of our commitment to delivering excellent service, programming, and facilities that are second to none.”

At a time when many northern Michigan resorts are scaling back their services and amenities due to trying economic times, The Homestead is actually enjoying a period of exciting growth, according to Jewell. One major reason—an amazing number of repeat customers. About 80 percent of departing guests surveyed at The Homestead say that they plan to return.

“Bookings are up forty-percent over last year at this time,” say Jewell. “We’ve expanded our guest services with the grand opening of our new spa and fitness center, our new wedding venues, and beautiful convention center. Plus, our Lifetime Skills Programs in tennis, golf, and fly fishing continue to be amazingly popular.”
