Leelanau UnCaged – September 26, 2020

Leelanau UnCaged
90 artists, 32+ musical and dance performances
12+ food trucks, vendors, and great local restaurants
Annual attendance over 7,000 and it’s FREE

Welcome to the 8th annual Leelanau UnCaged Music, Art and Food Festival.

We are a one-day celebration on the last Saturday of September each year. This year UnCaged will be on Saturday, September 26th, 2019 in Northport, Michigan.

Downtown Northport closes its main streets from 11:15AM to 10:00PM to host musical performers, dancers, artists, and food vendors. We begin at 11:15AM with a Water Blessing

A full day of music, dance, food, and art!

The event is originally inspired by John Cage, the famous American composer and philosopher, whose interpretation of rhythm and music was original in every way.

Leelanau UnCaged is a day to celebrate and stimulate the senses! We hope you come and enjoy.

This event is brought to you by local volunteers who care very much for this county and are proud of the talents and resources the people, the land and water provide.

So sad, Tough call, hang in there.

My fav summer event. It will be greatly missed this year, but we all understand. 2021 will be all the more exciting!

Understandably so.....Looking forward to next year!!

This makes me sad.

Sad but 👍.

Leelanau UnCaged

Ahhh, we are so happy yet (still sad) that an opportunity for a couple to get married at the Willowbrook Mill in downtown Northport has a new opening, Sept 26. That is the day we are ‘caging’ UnCaged this year. It doesn’t make the hurt less painful but a small wedding versus 8,000 in the street is easy logic to understand.

The UnCaged Team would like to thank the Willowbrook Mill for providing an amazing venue for our indoor performances during UnCaged. Mimi and Joel are good friends of UnCaged and we are forever grateful. 2021 will be an incredible celebration at UnCaged and this year will be a special wedding day for someone!

Check it out bride and groom’s-to-be!

Leelanau UnCaged Caged for 2020
In response to the COVID-19 threat, Leelanau UnCaged, Northport’s popular September street festival, is caging up for 2020 and postponing until next year.
Scheduled for September 26 this year, the 8th annual Leelanau UnCaged will instead unfold on September 25, 2021, with all the joy, zest and surprises as ever. Next year’s Leelanau UnCaged will feature, as always, more than 30 musical performances on five stages scattered throughout downtown Northport, plus scores of artists and food vendors.
In the past few years the one-day event has become the longest, most popular FREE music festival in northern Michigan, drawing as many as 8,000 people to the town of 650. Headliners have included the Red Elvises, the Microtones, Grupo Aye, and Denise Davis and the Motor City Sensations. Music genres range from Celtic to gypsy jazz to reggae to opera and beyond, plus classical dance, Native American dance and belly dancing. A Kids’ Leelanau UnCaged gives opportunities for creative expression to new generations.
Said Sandy Dhuyvetter, director of Leelanau UnCaged: “Our team of volunteers had a terrific day planned but, for the sake of safety and security, we’ll just postpone it a year, making it even better for 2021.”
For updates, like Leelanau UnCaged on Facebook for tributes to past performers and artists, and hints of what’s to come in 2021.

That sign would make a great shirt design for this year!

Absolutely stupid to cancel, sorry just being honest.

Good decision given the dubious future ahead. If the virus had been taken seriously right from the beginning things would have been different. Instead we had a lot of deniers, inspired by our lying leaders, who chose to put their selfish interests ahead of all others. Thanks for being proactive!

Smart move.. thank you for looking after the safety of people who are vulnerable to this virus. The 2nd wave is predicted to hit this fall and winter and the time frame this virus will run will most likely be a couple years.. hopefully the vaccine is available this fall / winter as well...

Thank you to all the volunteers and organizers for all the time and effort you put into this each year. Our favorite festival of summer...your decision is understood and we look forward to next year. All your hard work and planning is appreciated.

Sorry for all involved! This is happening worldwide (festival cancellations) & is very difficult for us on the performing side of things [Uncaged doesn't affect me this year but plenty of other cancellations are happending!]. But I can't even imagine how difficult for the staff & volunteers who work so hard to put these events together! Thank you for all you do AND for making the decision in a timely manner for the performers/vendors.

UnCaged takes a lot of preparation and commitments in the months leading up to it. we don’t want to waste Money and volunteers’ work without knowing it’s a go. Given Dr. Fauci’s & other’s warnings about a probable 2nd wave in fall, it’s just prudent to discourage big gatherings during its incubation phase. 2021 will be knockout though!

This is one of our favorite venues to perform. I play drums for the Belly Dancers, and last yr with first time performance by Deep Blue Water Samba School. Yes it’s a disappointment. That being said I understand the need to protect our communities. Stay Safe-Stay Strong. See all of you next year.

Thanks for putting our safety first! We’ll sure miss it it! See you in 2021!❤️

You people are still the best. We will look forward to 2021. Meredith family kettle corn.

I am a Crystal Bindi drummer as well. We just adore you and love being a part of this festival! Thank you for all of your hard work and your thoughtful consideration to protect the community. See you in 2021!! ❤🥁💃

Thank you for being safe and cautious. Best case scenario and the spread is drastically reduced/eliminated, and people will still visit and spend their money in Northport!

Super bummed but Cathy and I understand. 2021, let’s make this festival one for the history books. Everyone stay safe...

This past year was our first time to Leelanau UnCaged and we loved it! Sad to hear the news but we will definitely be back in 2021!

The Crystal Bindi dancers and drummers are so bummed - we love you guys! But, we understand. Stay safe and we hope to bring the shiny shenanigans and rhythms next year!

It’s the safe thing to do! I’ll look forward to next year!! Thank you!

I want to react with a haha bc your sign is very creative. But I'm also very sad

Love Uncaged!! Great event,. See you next year!

Thanks for a really fun community event! Can't wait until next year...

Way too early to cancel.

Love this event! It is awesome what you do in a day!👍👏🏻😃

I'm sure that this was difficult, but it is the right decision. Cant' wait for 2021. Stay Negative!

So sorry to hear it but understand. We've loved uncaged & will miss it.

Yea!!! DD AND MCS from the D might have a chance to perform again. Be safe

Thank you for protecting our community.
