Leland Wine and Food Festival – June 13, 2020 (Cancelled)

It’s with great disappointment that we announce that the 35th annual Leland Wine and Food Festival scheduled for Saturday, June 13th has been canceled due to circumstances surrounding Covid-19 Coronavirus. This is the first time since the festival began in 1986 that we haven’t joined together in celebration of fabulous Leelanau wines and delicious foods on the second Saturday in June, and we’re already planning on our best Wine Fest yet in 2021!

We would like to extend our gratitude to our incredible volunteer planning committee, our sponsors, local wineries, food vendors, musicians and artists who have been so understanding and supportive throughout this process, and to all of our Wine Fest attendees, many of which attend faithfully year after year!

For those of you who have already purchased your tickets, please note you can expect to see a refund in 7-14 business days.

Social distancing and shelter in place are difficult for all of us. Luckily, many area wineries who had planned to participate in the Leland Wine and Food Festival are offering special deals on shipping, offering curbside pick, hosting virtual tastings and more to ensure great wine can be had by all during these difficult times.

The Morris Shanty on the south side of the Leland River in Fishtown had eight-inches of water in it this morning, enough to float a life ring. We hope that the shanty will get lifted away from the river by the middle of June, so we can get started on the new wood pile foundation. We'll keep you posted!

Traverse City Film Festival – July 30 – August 4, 2019

The 2019 Traverse City Film Festival will be held July 30 – August 4, 2019.

The Traverse City Film Festival was founded by Oscar winning filmmaker Michael Moore as a charitable, educational, nonprofit organization committed to showing “Just Great Movies” and helping to save one of America’s few indigenous art forms — the cinema.

The festival brings films and filmmakers from around the world to northern Michigan for the annual film festival in late July to early August, and also owns and operates a year-round, community-based, mission-driven art house movie theater, the State Theatre.

I remember watching it at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor, sitting there after everyone else had left and thinking the same thing.. Everyone must see this.

hard to watch but worth it!

Loved it

I will watch it!

Please watch!

I was volunteering at the venue when this played, and I got the chance to see it! It was really good!

*originally replied to State Theatre’s post* Because of the Traverse City Film Festival, I think more globally. I’ve had face to face conversations with people from different countries than me. Different skin tones than me. Different beliefs than me. I’ve watched documentaries and independent films that gave me just a glimpse of what is important to others. Because of TCFF, I am more compassionate, more open minded, and more interested in what’s happening in the world. It seems a lot of folks are just looking to argue on here. I came here to express gratitude for what TCFF means to me. I hope that our community can continue this important tradition. Thanks for reading. ❤️

TCFF has shown me so many movies to open my eyes to difficult life events Black Lives Matter

I remember seeing Mike and Bill Maher at the State. During Q&A somebody mentioned Kalkaska and everyone laughed, Bill didn’t get the joke. So, Mike explained, “Weird stuff happens up there and we want it to stay up there.” More inclusive sentiment from the poser.

I couldn’t understand why people were calling me racist when I said all lives matter because my message was that I valued all races and all human life. Someone finally took the time to explain this to me. I needed to understand and see through someone else’s eyes. Instead of being mean and name calling, maybe take a minute to explain that black lives matter doesn’t exclude other races, instead it’s bringing to attention the unjust behavior and oppression against them and that’s where the attention needs to be focused. Spread love, not hate.❤️

LOVE this ❤️❤️❤️

No need to be so specific. All lives matter. Everyone should have the same rights and the same privileges. Really sad how one minute we are pulling together to fight corona and now ppl are destroying property and lives. We need to stay united so we can regain control of our country.

Thank you TCFF!! ✊🏾✊🏻✊🏿

Thank you!

Thank you, Traverse City Film Festival ✊🏿

As a white privileged person, I know my life matters to the police; if you’re a person of color in America it’s very difficult to have that same conviction-That’s the reason the Black Lives Matter movement exists.

If all life doesn't matter than no life matters.

❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍

If You’re missing the point, you’re part of the problem

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

✊🏾

All life matters

Wrong....ALL LIVES MATTER

Thank you!!!

BLACK LIVES MATTER!!! is a clear and important response to a culture that seems to be saying that our brothers and sisters who are black do not matter and may be treated in inhumane ways by racists among us. Black lives are God's children and Black lives matter!!!!

🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

But it looks like Black businesses don't ? - stop it - it isn't right to demolish anyone's business.

Weird how my comment about your 92% white community driving minorities away just disappeared. Scared of the truth, I see. Coward.

No thanks 👎🏻 ALL LIFE MATTERS 👍

I think I saw this years ago. Didn’t he and his girlfriend get eaten by a grizzly? It was interesting.

Great documentary with a tragic ending.

You just knew this wasn’t going to end well

Saw it at TCFF, a bit troubling

Saw this at the first TCFF. Haunting and sad.

You must never listen to this.

Brilliant film!

Sad to say, we lost our Stewy Parker on November 15, 2019. This past fall. He put the screen up for about 10 years. I am sure that many of you knew him.He loved the Film Festival. I am sure he will be missed. He would say “Keep it going folks”.

Will miss all of TCFF but trying to support the best movie theaters ever! Stay strong

The best fest in the game. Bar none. Can’t wait for next year.

It’s a sad day in Mudville 😷

What happens to the films that were submitted?

see you in 2021!
