Even ‘Stripped Down,’ Rick Springfield is still an impressive figure: Springfield made his debut as a rock singer, producing radio hits such as “Jessie’s Girl” before branching out into acting and writing.

Springfield’s filmography includes a starring role on the ’90s television series High Tide, a three-season stint on the daytime drama General Hospital, and, more recently, a supporting appearance on True Detective.

World Youth Symphony Orchestra, Carlos Kalmar, cond.; Conrad Tao, piano – Interlochen Arts Festival – July 31, 2016


Conductor Carlos Kalmar takes the helm of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra for their fifth performance of the summer. Guest pianist Conrad Tao joins WYSO in a performance of Ravel’s “Piano Concerto in G.” Anton Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8 rounds out the Week 5 program.

Carlos Kalmar is in his 13th year as the music director of the Oregon Symphony and is also the artistic director and principal conductor of both the Grant Park Music Festival in Chicago and the Spanish Radio/Television Orchestra and Choir in Madrid. Kalmar’s creative programs and exceptional conducting have led the Oregon Symphony to multiple Grammy nominations and several critically-acclaimed recordings. Kalmar is in demand by symphonies worldwide as a guest conductor. He lives in Poland with his wife and son.

Conrad Tao is a concert pianist, Presidential Scholar in the Arts, Gilmore Artist and artist-in-residence for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Despite his young age, Tao has already recorded several albums and performed with symphonies across the nation. Tao is also a gifted composer, winning eight consecutive ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Awards.

An Evening with Jake Shimabukuro – Interlochen Arts Festival – August 2, 2016


Jake Shimabukuro’s distinct ukulele sound combines modern rock influences with traditional Hawaiian music. Virtuosic yet expressive, Jake’s repertoire ranges from “Bohemian Rhapsody” to Schubert’s “Ave Maria”.

The first ukulele artist to sign a contract with Sony, Jake gained international recognition when his cover of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” went viral on YouTube. Since then, Jake has collaborated with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Jack Johnson, Jimmy Buffett, Cyndi Lauper and Lyle Lovett and appeared on Good Morning America, Jimmy Kimmel Live and a Netflix documentary, Life on Four Strings.
